The Vancouver Fly Meeting (VanFly) is a Drosophila research conference that brings together the Drosophila research community in Vancouver and beyond to foster collaboration and scientific excellence.
The VanFly 2022 Organizing Committee values all attendees and wants to make an inclusive experience that is productive and inspiring. To promote this goal, we developed a Code of Conduct based on a similar code created by the Genetics Society of America as well as Canadian Drosophila Research Conference.
The VanFly 2022 Organizing committee is:
Puja Biswas, Zazil Solis, Katja MacCharles, Jenny Liao, and Colin Miller
The VanFly 2022 Organizing Committee wants to maintain a professional setting to allow the open communication of ideas. This Code of Conduct will help convey a transparent set of standards and guidelines for acceptable behaviour at the 2022 VanFly Meeting and provide an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment for all attendees, vendors, volunteers, and staff.
It is mandatory that all conference participants (regardless of their role) follow the Code of Conduct while attending any portion of the conference, including but not limited to live Q&A sessions, and all conference-related social media and networking.
Unacceptable Behaviors
Unacceptable behaviours include, but are not limited to:
Taking action or making a report
A complaint can be filed by contacting any members of the VanFly 2022 Organizing Committee ([email protected]). All reports will be handled confidentially.
Consequences of non-compliance
If any VanFly 2022 Organizing Committee, a Session Chair, Moderator, or Presenter ask anyone to stop unacceptable behaviour, the person is expected to comply immediately. Retaliation toward the members of the VanFly 2022 Organizing committee will not be tolerated and may result in additional sanctions. The consequences of non-compliance with VanFly 2022’s Code of Conduct may include:
Diversity and Inclusion
VanFly 2022 is committed to promoting an inclusive and welcoming environment. We support all sexual orientations and gender identities, racial and ethnic backgrounds, physical ability, and other groups. The Organizing Committee aims to select speakers and session chairs that represent the breadth and diversity of the discipline and conference participants. In planning this event our committee used resources from the UBC Equity and Inclusion Office to create the best possible environment where respect, civility, diversity, opportunity and inclusion are valued.
